Wear what you feel

Freedom of expression isn’t just a term if you are young and have multiple ways to show how and what you feel. Giving more space to expression now are T-shirts with LED lights, battery-operated emoticons and designs that offer a humorous and sometimes satirical take on current affairs. Expressing a
sense of individuality, these tees are soon catching on and gaining popularity with the young crowd.

Atif Shaikh from Indiaplaza.com, a site that sells LED t-shirts, says, “The tiny LED lights that run on a small battery. The light can be switched on and off using a simple button. Each battery is replaceable and works for more than 200 hours of constant running.” Shrikanth, CFO of seventymm.com, another site that sells similar T-shirts, says, “We have been selling these LED T-shirts since three months now and the response has been tremendous. This is a very unique product and is loved by kids. Sometimes, we sell one T-shirt to a kid, and fifty others from the same building want them too!.” Fashion

Keeping innovation high on agenda, city store Hitplay too has conceived a tee vibrate with expressions. These electro tees come with dynamic motifs, offering animation in eight various sequences. The shirts have a clever mini battery pack that is hidden in a small pocket just inside the hem with an onboard toggle switch. And unlike other trophy T-shirts, this one is foldable and washable too.

On the other hand, tees by inkfruit.com offer a unique take on current affairs with novel designs and expressions. Their latest release, created by designers from their own online community, revolves around the recent bomb blasts in the city and politicians. The site also has a contest running, where people can vote for favorite designs, which are then incorporated into their line in the future. Tanu Parekh, college student, 21, says, “The frustration and outrage we feel towards the system in huge. This is the best way to show it.” Vishal Shah, an engineer, agrees, “If we, the youth, don’t show that we care, who will?”

And there is still more on offer. Prasad Desai of toyworld.com, that manufactures LED T-shirts, says, “We have received such a great response that our initial stock is over and we are waiting for our next batch, which is expected in the next 10 days. The next stock will bring newer designs in more colors and variety.”
